Brick's Night Guard
A Total Drama One Shot
____________
Brick MacGarthor pulled his white blanket up to his face as he sat alone in the darkness of his room at Playa de Losers, his night light had burned out and he had been awake for over an hour. He'd go to his dresser for another bulb, but his fear of the dark imprisoned him to his bed. Outside, the clouds blocked the light of the moon, making light unavailable to his room. Brick scanned the room as best as he can, but the little light gave him no security and allowed his fears to get control of him. Furniture gave the image of hidden terrors, crouching down and waiting to strike. Childhood memories arouse possible monsters awaiting him to make one wrong move. The darkened hue changed the appearance of the items and even the walls of the cadets room nearly made him soil himself.
"It's okay Brick, it's okay...." he whispered to himself "Its just the dark, nothing else..." Beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he pulled his legs close and clenched his hands. "Nothing but bumps, squeaks and creaks that can come from anyone... or anything... in the dark..." Shuddering, Brick looked out the window; the pool's clear surface rarely moved, giving the illusion of being perfectly solid as glass. The lawn chairs sat in an orderly line with the palm trees hovering over and touching the sides of the resort. Normally with the moon's light, the scene was rather peaceful and relaxing, giving the look of a gently lit scenery, accompanied with safety from hidden terrors. But with the alluring glow from the gentle moon blacked out by thick, dark clouds, the area scared Brick to a wit's end, and without anything to show what lay covered by the darkness, he remained in his room.
Settling his breathing, Brick loosened his body and gently slid back into his bed, relaxing his muscles as he lay back down on his bed. Blanket pulled up to his neck, Brick tried to sleep, his eyes locked outside the window, staring back at his reflection. He tried to think of pleasant thoughts, as he started to slowly fall asleep... he started thinking of happy moments from his childhood, the day he was accepted into boot camp, when he first got his dog tags, graduating from boot camp, his team's first win on Revenge of the Island...
CLUNK!
Brick shot up, eyes wide, fists clenched and fully awake! A loud, unknown sound disrupted his almost peaceful slumber, Brick was reminded that he was in his dark room; no light, no protection, no knowledge of what could be hiding in the shadows, waiting for Brick to leave the comfort of his bed.
THUNK
"Wh-wh-what was that!?" Brick was scared for his life, normally with his night light he could identify the sound with what bravery he has, but tonight he couldn't even move. Two unknown sounds broke through, freezing Brick stiff and keeping him awake. He didn't know how long it was between him falling asleep and the first sound, but his room was even darker than earlier! He couldn't even see the door on the other side of the room, let alone the dresser by his bed! Fear had completely eloped the cadet, and it wasn't letting go.
"..."
When he thought nothing could make it worse, he heard someone walking down the hall. Each step became louder and closer, Brick's mind raced at what could be making those steps. He tried to remind himself of his cadet training, telling himself to stay calm and not panic. "Remain calm, cadet. I am b-bigger than the dark... I am better, th-than the dark..."
Each step came closer and closer, Brick used all his strength to remain calm, trying not to let his fear get the best of him. He pulled his blanket and legs up to his chest, hands harshly gripped on the blanket and both arms shaking and teeth chattering, Brick almost went into fetal position and slightly leaned back "R-remain c-c-calm, cadet. I am bigger than the dark... I-I-I am better than the d-d-dark... I am b-bi-bigger than the... I a-am bigger than...."
squeak
"AAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
The small squeak from his bed terrified Brick out of his blanket and ran blindly out the door. But the moment he left his room, he slammed and fell to the ground and on something. He opened his eyes and saw Jo under him holding a flashlight and on the floor. "Jo?" She rubbed her head and asked "What was the point of-" Jo was cut off by Brick hugging her and almost crying. She tried to push him off, but he hung on, refusing to let go "What's wrong with you? Your nightlight burn out?" She said with a smirk "Y-Yes..." He whimpered. "Meh, no big deal!" Jo stood up, reached into a lamp hanging on the wall and twisted out the white bulb. She walked into the room with Brick following behind and replaced the bulbs, in a split second, Brick's room was illuminated with a steady white glow. The light revealed everything in his room and sight was fully restored, he had nothing to fear "Problem solved, Private Coward."
When Brick looked away from his room's interior he looked back at Jo, and he kept looking. The light radiated on Jo in a way ...which had his undivided attention, he hadn't noticed her this way before ever since they met on the island. Normally, they'd have their eyes on each other when competing, but this one time he didn't want to look away. For now, she looked like... a pretty sight. "Uh... thank you ma'am. I salute your bravery!"
"Okay then..." She said with an eyebrow raised "I guess I'll leave now!" He quickly spun around and took her hand "Jo wait!" She turned and noticed Brick was slightly blushing "Th-this may sound very awkward, but..." Brick shyly looked away as his hand released hers. "Would you... maybe.... sleep in my room with me, for tonight?" "Sorry Brick, but you..." She tried to finish, but she got a good look into his eyes. "B-but you...."
Although he came off as a tough cadet, she saw a gentle, softer side to him that she didn't know was there. She also saw that even though his nightlight was fixed, he didn't want her to leave. Was he still scared? Did he want to repay her? She didn't know why, but something inside told her to stay "You, uh... you don't have to worry. I'll stay....." Brick smiled ".... but only for tonight! Understand?" Brick saluted "Ma'am, yes ma'am!"
Shortly after, Jo returned with a red sleeping bag and set it beside Brick's bed, crawled in and fell asleep. But before she was fully asleep, she felt something big move up against her, she looked and found Brick sleeping beside her, with a warm smile on his face. Although she wanted to hit him, something about the sight of the cadet sleeping soundly changed her mind. Instead she smiled, and cuddled close to Brick, carefully setting one arm over him. "Don't worry ca-... I mean, Brick, I'll be your guardian in the dark." She lowered her head to the pillow ".....I promise." In his slumber, he wrapped an arm around Jo and made her blush, and they both fell asleep by Brick's nightlight.
...
The next morning, Brick woke up to see Jo still by his side. Not wanting to disturb her, he slowly got up, and carried her to her room. Once inside, he set her down on her bed and pushed her hair put from her face. While she slept, Brick bent down and kissed her softly on the lips, trying not to wake her up. She smiled and exhaled through her nose, causing his heart to warm up. He turned around to leave, but before stepping out the door, he turned to face Jo and saluted her "Thank you, Jo."
And ever since then, not another sound in the night ever bothered Brick, or his guardian of the dark. Knowing how they were, Brick felt just as safe as ever....

Scourtney - Insomnia
The night is heavy around the campgrounds. Owls call out in the darkness and the restless creatures that come to life in the pitch black rustle around on the ground and through the surrounding trees. This particular night Courtney is one of these creatures.
She lies with open eyes and stares at the ceiling. She fidgets and makes soft noises to herself. She can't stand it here – in the loser cabin. Scott paced back and forth in his room, his hands behind his back and nervously turning his attention to the clock every few minutes.
How am I supposed to deal with Dawn for the entire Summer without ripping my hair out, Scott thought to himself. Dinner was going to be in a few minutes, and since Dawn was getting used to the house she wanted to cook dinner tonight. Dawn being Dawn, it would probably be some vegetarian dinner with tofu and salad and other junk.
After several minutes, Scott collapsed on his bed and rubbed his Left arm. It was a souvenir of his Fang accident, which reminded him of his elimination, which told him about how he c
